Novelty motorcycle helmets are unique and very popular among riders in states that have relaxed or no helmet laws.  Stucturally they do not offer the protection that a DOT helmet provides but still offer protection from road debris, bugs, and natural elements like sun, wind, and rain.  Also, novelty helmets allow the rider to express themselves by customizing the helmet with paint, stickers, graphics or add-on items.  Bikers want to attrack as much attention from other motorists as possible, by customizing and getting "crazy" with their designs, they affectively do that and cause motorists to use more caution.  Novelty motorcycle helmets are NOT DOT APPROVED!!!!
